Fire Risk & Chimney

Not cleaning your chimney can increase the risk of chimney fires, which can be extremely dangerous and cause significant damage to your property. Here are some of the risks associated with chimney fires caused by not cleaning it:

Property damage: Chimney fires can quickly spread to other areas of your home and cause significant damage to your property. The heat from the fire can cause cracks in the chimney, which can allow flames to escape and ignite other areas of your home.

Structural damage: Chimney fires can cause damage to the structural integrity of your home. The intense heat can weaken or even collapse your chimney, which can damage your roof, walls, and foundation.

Increased insurance premiums: Chimney fires can lead to expensive repairs and insurance claims, which can cause your insurance premiums to increase.

To prevent chimney fires, it’s important to have your chimney inspected and cleaned regularly by Duct Ninjas. The frequency of cleaning depends on how often you use your fireplace, but it’s generally recommended to have it cleaned at least once a year.

Toxic Fumes & Chimney

Chimneys can become toxic if they are not maintained properly or if harmful substances are burned in them. Here are some ways that chimneys can become toxic:

Carbon monoxide: Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless gas that is produced when fuels like wood, coal, and gas are burned. If your chimney is not functioning properly, carbon monoxide can build up in your home and cause serious health problems, including headaches, nausea, dizziness, and even death.

Creosote: Creosote is a flammable substance that builds up in chimneys when wood is burned. If the creosote is not removed regularly by a professional chimney sweep, it can become a fire hazard and cause chimney fires.

Mold: Moisture can build up in chimneys, especially if they are not used often or if they are not properly insulated. This moisture can create an ideal environment for mold to grow, which can cause respiratory problems and other health issues.

To prevent chimneys from becoming toxic, it’s important to have them inspected and cleaned regularly by Duct Ninjas.

It’s important to have your chimney cleaned to prevent mortal chimney fires and silent carbon monoxide poisoning. Nearly 29% of home fires related to heating start with chimney.

Soot and creosote are substances that build up in your chimney over time, which increase the risk of a chimney fire. Soot is a black, powdery substance that forms when fuel is burned incompletely. And creosote is a sticky, tar-like substance that forms when wood is burned.

Both soot and creosote can build up in your chimney and reduce airflow, increasing the risk of a chimney fire. In addition, a blocked chimney can also result in silent carbon monoxide poisoning.

The frequency of chimney cleaning depends on the usage of your chimney. According the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), your chimney should be inspected annually and cleaned as needed.

For example, if you use your chimney frequently, you may need to have it cleaned more often than if you use it infrequently. Additionally, if you notice any signs that your chimney may be blocked or has a buildup of creosote, you should have it inspected and cleaned right away.

There are several signs that your chimney may need cleaning, including:

  • A strong, unpleasant odor coming from the fireplace
  • Smoke entering the room
  • A buildup of soot or creosote on the walls of the chimney
  • A reduced draft, which can cause smoke to enter the room or carbon monoxide to accumulate in your home

If you notice any of these signs, it’s important to have your chimney inspected and cleaned by a professional as soon as possible.

While it is possible to clean your chimney yourself, it is recommended that you hire a professional chimney sweep. Professional chimney sweeps have the specialized tools and expertise to safely and effectively clean your chimney. Additionally, they can also inspect your chimney for any damage or other issues that may need to be addressed.

The duration of a chimney cleaning depends on the size and condition of your chimney. Generally, a standard cleaning can take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour, while more extensive cleaning or repairs may take longer.

Duct Ninjas is top notch! They have knowledgeable/professional techs and office support. Shelby in the office is awesome and Ram my tech did a thorough job completely the annual service on my system. I have zero complaints and I would strongly recommend them to anyone who needs air vent cleaning!. My husband found the ad in the monthly flyer. He called and the next day a service man arrived at 8:30 am. His name was Ram and he checked outside and found something which he fixed. He replaced our thermostat because my husband wanted a new one. We were very happy with the work done by Brian. I will look into a service contract.

We had Levi clean our vent system & dryer ducts. He was very knowledgeable and showed us our hose behind the dryer was scrunched up and that is the leading cause of fire in the US. He also caught our exterior dryer valve malfunctioning and took care of everything. Highly recommend!

I had my dryer vent cleaned today by Ram and I cannot say enough good things about the service I received. He was super knowledgeable and actually gave me a lot of home upkeep advice while he was here. He removed 9 years worth of dryer lint from our ducts and showed us the clear ducts after. He did this while teaching me how to keep up with the problem and what to look for in the future. I trust that I received valuable service and knowledge for the money and would highly recommend him to friends and family, best dryer duct cleaning in Atlanta hands down.

Gal took the time to explain his process and how his all natural product for killing mold/allergens works. It was a clean and easy experience all around. My husband noticed his allergies were better the next day. We also did the dryer vent cleaning which was eye opening. He showed me what came out of the first part of our vent which could have caused a fire. Our dryer finally dries clothes on the first try now! Highly recommend his services, Duct Ninjas goes above and beyond with their air duct cleaning!
